The Zocalo is a very unique experience that brings people from all over the world to join into the fun and excitement. Here is where many festivals begin and culture is found. This area is the heartbeat of Mexico City where you will find not only history but also many modern conveniences.
The Museo Nacional de Antropologia will give you a glimpse into the past with such exhibits as an introduction to Anthropology, the settlement of the America's, Teotihuacan and of course the Aztec's. The Gallery of the Cultures of the Gulf Coast is a must see for any history buffs, they have many unique displays featured including pieces that have been found in excavations and information on the many different cultures that once called this area home such as Huaxtecs, Otomies, Nahuas, Totonacs, Tepehuas, Popolcs, Zoques-Mixes, and Mixtecs.
One of the most popular and beautiful attractions in Mexico City is Chapultepec Park and Chapultepec castle. To find you way to Chapultepec Park and castle you must first stroll through Paseo de la Reforma avenue. At the end of this unique avenue, you will come face to face with Chapultepec hill. Atop the hill is Chapultepec Castle, which is surrounded by the Chapultepec Forest and Park. This will be a wonderful and quiet visit as you can stroll through the park, enjoy a picnic, see all the magnificent statues, row across the lake, and stand in awe at the beauty of Chapultepec Castle.
The "Palacio de Bellas Artes" is a marvel to see. The architectural design is one that you are not soon to forget and the events that are planned each year are as wonderful as the exterior of the Palacio de Bellas Artes. You will love the design of the Italian architect Boari and the masterpiece he created in 1904.
A great museum located in Mexico City is the Templo Mayor. The discovery of this unique archelogical find was all by accident in 1978 and today it is home to some of the most exquisite artifacts from the area. The exploration began and what was unearthed will be a treat to all that visit the Templo Mayor. It has eight wonderful and unique halls to explore such as the south wing, which is dedicated to Huitzilopochtli, god of war, and the north wing to Tlaloc, god of rain.
Pyramids have a draw like nothing else on this earth and Mexico City has some of the best. The Teotihuacan pyramids will give you a full day of exploring the area and discovering a bit of history face to face instead of some history book. Not only is Teotihuacan considered to be a very famous pyramid but it is also a city with two complete axes to explore.
Pre-Columbian Art research is what you will discover when you visit Palenque. This is a current archelogical dig site where you can watch and learn so much about The Mayan culture and what is found each and every day, if they are lucky enough to find something that often. The have unearthed a very beautiful tablet, that greeted those that came to visit, in pieces in 1999 which you can view among many other treasures.
The Museo Frida Kahlo is where artist Frida Kahlo made her home from birth until her death in 1954. She was born here, grew up here and even lived with her husband, Diego Rivera, in this unique and artistic home. Not to give away too much of the design but the home is in a U shape around a beautiful courtyard. In the museum, you will see many displays of her belongings and that of her husband, both exquisite artists.
